Pretty As A Picture

Our invitation illustrator Ailbhe from Pretty As A Picture recently put up a post about our invitation suite and I wanted to share it. She was such a pleasure to work with in the months leading up to the wedding and we love her drawings and the illustration she created for us.

She made this inspiration board from the different elements I sent to help her come up with the design. I'm basically copying and pasting what she wrote, but you can read it for yourself on her blog here. Cool news is that she just recently got engaged, and I can't wait to see the design she comes up with for her own invitations!

  1. Venetian masks that will be featured at the wedding
  2. “Besides being a fan of the movie, The labyrinth to us means the journey we all take in life, and Mat and I definitely went through a journey to find each other.”
  3. The perfect pose for the couple to be depicted.
  4. Art Deco inspired beautifully beaded Lazaro wedding dress.
  5. Magellen the cat, whom Mat and Elhaam rescued from the NY Animal Shelter.
  6. Elhaam adores this Zeigfeld girls print, it is her source of inspiration for the wedding invitations.
  7. Mat’s vintage style suit.
  8. Examples of intricate frames.

Dave Dancing At the Wedding

Here is footage of our friend Dave dancing at the wedding to Drop the Pressure. This has made all the internet round and is on it's way to becoming quite a sensation, much like Dave himself. How does he get his legs to move like that? It's incredible! Enjoy.

Different Design Elements

In case you missed them, here are some of the different design elements from our wedding. I'm waiting for  the photos of the marque poster we made for the venue, the drum cover, and the tote bags we had made to arrive.

Thanks again to our illustrators Simone Ralphe and Pretty As A Picture for the drawings. Shayda, Semi, and Sarah were my graphic designers and helped design the menus, shower invites and programs. Sarah went above and beyond helping with all the different design elements and also did the awesome itineraries we put in all the gift bags.

We had custom m&ms in the gift bags with Magellan on them, but I doubt any photos of that will surface.

Music From Our Wedding

One of the biggest questions we've been getting since the wedding is "where can I download your wedding songs". Mat and I are so flattered. We spent MONTHS putting together the perfect playlist for our wedding. We wanted the music to act as a soundtrack, with all the major moments revolving around the songs.

There were a few hiccups regarding the music by Capitale (they were a little confused how to operate the ipod), but besides them forgetting to play our first dance song and playing the Stevie Wonder song twice in a row, we're really happy how the music played such a big role at the wedding.

Each song was picked not only because they are favorites and sound amazing, but also because the lyrics suited the mood of the wedding so perfectly. So below you will find a list of the songs and when they were played. For your convenience, we also created this pop up player with our favorite songs from the wedding.

And because I love you all so much, I played all our favorite wedding songs on my radio show, and you can listen to it whenever you want here!

Wedding Entry Playlist - Songs played as guests arrived to Capitale:

Francois Hardy - All Over The World
The Association - Never My Love
Otis Redding - These Arms Of Mine (Your Vegas does a great cover version of this)
The Hollies - The Air That I Breathe
Phantom Planet - Our House (Madness cover)
The Last Town Chorus - Modern Love (David Bowie cover)
Florence & The Machine - Addicted to Love (Robert Palmer cover)
Future Islands - In The Fall
Au Revoir Simone - Stay Golden

Procession Song:
Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill
This song was released just a couple months before the wedding. We had been searching for the right song and wanted to use The The - This is the Day, but felt it was a tad too upbeat for that moment. When this song came out, we both loved it right away and it suited our needs. Plus, the line "you are my medicine" kills me because I wrote the same thing about Mat in my journal when we first started dating!

Recession Song:
Fyfe Dangerfield - When You Walk In The Room
Chosen because it is joyous and we essentially were walking into another room, ha. Also the lyrics are so touching, "In this moment, no one is pulling me down into the ground. I can't help it if I'm happy. I can't help it if I'm happy not to be sad...I want you endlessly".

Wedding Highlight Clip

Our fantastic videography team just sent Mat and I this link to a highlight clip they created of our wedding. This video made me laugh and cry, all under 4 minutes. It's amazing and includes all our favorite moments from the wedding! Huge thanks to Honor Code Visual for doing such a beautiful job and helping capture so many memories for us!

For those who may have a slow connection, we've uploaded a smaller resolution version of the video on You Tube. Click the link to be redirected there.
